Plasma catecholamine concentrations during surgery in unsupplemented glucocorticoid-treated patients.

چکیده
Plasma catecholamine (CA) concentrations, mean arterial pressure (MAP) and plasma corticosteroids were measured in fifteen unsupplemented glucocorticoid-treated patients undergoing major surgery. Eight patients had normal and seven patients had reduced plasma corticosteroid concentrations. Changes in plasma CA and MAP during surgery were not related to adrenocortical function. Two patients developed hypotension during the operation, but had nonnal plasma CA and corticosteroid concentrations.

Plasma volume during surgery in unsupplemented glucocorticoid-treated patients.
SUMMARY Changes in plasma volume and plasma cortisol concentrations were investigated in seven unsupplemented and three supplemented glucocorticoid-treated patients and in eight control patients subjected to abdominal surgery. No differences in postoperative plasma volume deficit could be demonstrated between normal and glucocorticoid-treated patients, or between patients with a normal or an im...
متن کاملPlasma catecholamine levels during extracorporeal circulation in children.
Plasma adrenaline and noradrenaline concentrations have been measured in nine children undergoing cardiac operations involving extracorporeal circulation under neuroleptanaesthesia. Compared to control values, plasma adrenal increased 34-fold and noradrenaline, 2.2-fold during extracorporeal circulation. The increase in plasma catecholamines reported in adults has been confirmed in these childr...
متن کاملCardiovascular reflex modulation of plasma catecholamine concentrations in the anesthetized cat.
The purpose of this study was to examine the role of carotid sinus and cardiopulmonary mechanoreceptors in the reflex control of adrenal medullary catecholamine secretion. Afferent input from carotid sinus and cardiopulmonary mechanoreceptors was decreased by carotid occlusion or cervical vagal cold block, respectively. Increases in arterial pressure were significantly greater when either inter...
متن کاملEffects of estrogen and estrous cycle on glucocorticoid and catecholamine responses to stress in sheep.
There have been relatively few studies of the effects of estrogen on hormonal responses to stress. We therefore studied changes in ACTH, cortisol, norepinephrine (NE), and epinephrine (Epi) after stress induced by a barking dog (audiovisual stressor) and insulin-induced hypoglycemia (metabolic stressor) in ovariectomized sheep treated with estradiol or placebo and in intact sheep in the follicu...
متن کاملSkin blood flow and plasma catecholamine concentrations during removal of a phaeochromocytoma in a child.
A 9-yr-old boy with an adrenal phaeochromocytoma underwent removal of the tumour under general anaesthesia using sevoflurane and nitrous oxide combined with thoracic epidural anaesthesia. Skin blood flow in the first toe, as measured by laser Doppler flowmetry, markedly decreased during manipulation of the tumour and increased after removal of it. Skin blood flow correlated more significantly w...
